Who’s Really Guilty of Sowing Discord?

Proverbs 6:16-19

The Bible’s clear that God hates the sowing of discord and we who stand by the ancient landmarks of the faith are often accused of being the sowers of discord because we insist on abiding by Biblical standards. Recently, because I take a stand on the King James Bible and because I insist on some standards of decency in dress and in music, I was accused of being divisive. As I analyzed this accusation, I realized that I was faced with the situation that Isaiah described in Isaiah 5:21; “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil…”

What I mean by that is, in the case of the Bible, for over 300 years the KJB united all of “Christianity” – and Baptists in particular – but now we who hold to the KJB are accused of sowing discord. But honestly, “Who’s really guilty of sowing discord? Are not those who have rewritten God’s Word the real source of the discord?”

When it comes to dress, for centuries Christians were united around wearing their Sunday best to church out of respect for God, but now, those who retain that attitude are labeled divisive because they don’t condone dressing however one pleases. Again I ask, Who’s really guilty of sowing discord?

And then there’s music. For centuries the music that marked Christianity was psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. But now those who hold to traditional hymns and will not bow to contemporary music trends are labeled as divisive.  But again, Who’s really guilty of sowing discord?

I leave you with Jeremiah 6:16; “Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.”

So, Who’s really guilty of sowing discord?

Thank you so much for your post concerning identifying the sowers of discord… opposed to those who still attempt to apply God’s word to all areas of life. It is great to see that there are folks who still stand firm. We live in Chester County Pennsylvania…and have such a hard time finding a good fundamental…separated…bible believing work.
